Interview with Samira Talić
Project Architect at JP Elektroprivreda BiH,
A graduate of Walter BIM Academy and a Certificated Revit User
How would you describe yourself in a few words?
I was born and raised in Sarajevo. I am a 45-year-old engineer with a degree in Architecture. I fell in love with this profession from early childhood, while playing with my first Lego blocks. Also, I am especially interested in museology. I am currently working at Elektroprivreda BiH as a Project Architect.
What is your educational background and past working experience? Which courses did you attend at Walter BIM Academy?
After completing the Secondary Technical School of Architecture in Sarajevo, I received my university degree from the Faculty of Architecture. I also attended postgraduate studies at the same faculty and successfully passed all the exams except the final thesis. As an extraordinary student and recipient of a scholarship award from Elektroprivreda BiH, I started working in this Company, first as an intern, and then as an associate.
After completing my professional state exam, I started working in the sector for construction supervision at Elektroprivreda BIH, and remained in this position for seven years. Since 2008, I have been working as an expert associate for the preparation of hydroelectric power plants in the Sector of Capital Investments at Elektroprivreda. My daily tasks are related to the procurement of consulting services in construction (designing, research, auditing, supervision, etc.), preparation of documentation for construction approval, monitoring the development of spatial planning bases in Bosnia and Herzegovina, improving the legal framework for investing in electricity infrastructure, and addressing the sensitive issue of mitigating the impact of hydroelectric power projects on the environment and society.
In 2018, I attended the Revit Basic and Revit Advanced courses at Walter BIM Academy, and got certificated as a Professional Revit User. I believe that all the activities I am involved in at my workplace can be performed in BIM and that is why Revit courses are so interesting to me.
How satisfied are you with your experience at Walter BIM Academy?
I consider that all participants in the construction industry should be searching for and adopting innovative technology and methods in order to improve the overall efficiency of their businesses. Since I was given the chance to experience courses at Walter BIM Academy, I can say that it offers excellent education and certification services related to BIM methodology.
What do you see as the biggest benefit of BIM, and how would you apply it in your current position?
Given that I work on the preparation of hydroelectric projects, I can say that hydroelectric plants are believed to be among the most complex plants. As for my tasks, I believe that BIM can help the harmonization of design solutions between the various professionals that usually collaborate together on a particular project. Furthermore, BIM can improve the processes of monitoring, project implementation, and later exploitation and maintenance.
Why did you decide to take the Autodesk Revit User Exam? How can it help you in your future career?
It is an exceptional opportunity to gain new skills and get a valuable attestation of your knowledge, which is the certificate issued by the author of BIM software as great as Revit is. This opportunity should not be passed on lightly, especially because the certificate is recognized everywhere in the world.
How, from your perspective, did the Autodesk Certification Testing Process go?
I would like to express my enormous gratitude to all the staff engaged in organizing examinations at Walter BIM Academy, especially because of the great work atmosphere and infrastructure of the premises where the testing took place. The test itself is structured with precise questions, and the test provides enough time for answering each question. At the end of the test, students are also able to see their results immediately.
Did you like the layout and composition of the test? How challenging was it?
The layout and composition of the test were very practical and there was no difficulty in solving the tasks, especially after taking courses at Walter BIM Academy.
Would you recommend training and certification at Walter BIM Academy to other engineers and technicians?
Yes, I would recommend Walter BIM Academy services to all construction professionals in Bosnia and Herzegovina who do their work with integrity. In accordance with the path of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the European Union, as well as due to the regulations on the BIM-ization of all public buildings in the major countries around the world, Walter BIM Academy offers “up-to-date” education and certification on very desirable skills. To top that off, the atmosphere during the courses is so relaxing and pleasant – you feel like you are learning something new from the comfort of your home.
